Pau Gasol is a power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers in Los Angeles, California. He is a four-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection, and has won two NBA championships. In 2012, he won the NBA J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for outstanding service, and is an ambassador for UNICEF, St. Jude Hospital and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.
Together with his brother Marc, Pau founded the Gasol Foundation in 2013. From a very young age, the Gasols have shared a passion for children’s health. Because their mother was a doctor and their father a hospital administrator, Pau and Marc had regular access to and were educated on the importance of physical activity, healthy food and emotional security. Some of their fondest family memories were moments spent together actively living a healthy lifestyle. They strive now, as part of their own foundation’s work, to do everything they can to ensure that same level of access and enjoyment for today’s global youth. With past charitable endeavors Pau and Marc have seen first-hand the two-fold power of philanthropy: affecting both macro-level change and more personal, intimate change. They look forward to casting continued light on important issues through future philanthropic partnerships and the work of the Gasol Foundation.
